Richard Yamada recently hauled up this 50-pound halibut while fishing from an open kayak, no less. It was one of two he caught that day near his lodge in Juneau, Alaska (the other was 30 pounds). A former Kaneohe resident, Richard and his wife Jackie own and operate Shelter Lodge on Shelter Island.

He was a most gracious host during our recent visit to Alaska. That episode, featuring Richard, Jackie and Shelter Lodge, is scheduled to air during the week of October 9.
